My Skincare Life - Busola Sennuga

Busola Sennuga is a skincare enthusiast who is currently training to be a primary school teacher. She took time out to tell me about her skincare regime.

The first time I ever came across skincare products was in my Mum’s wardrobe. She had a lot of luxury face moisturisers and serums and I remember trying them when she wasn’t at home. However, when I first came across skincare products as as adult it was through working at Lush whilst I was at University.

My major influence was definitely working at Lush. That’s where I really discovered skincare products and routines. As a teen I never had any trouble with my skin, I don’t even think I got a single spot, so my routine was mainly washing my face with Dudu Osun which is Black Soap (I can’t believe I used to put that on my face) and using E45 to moisturise.

I would say I really started learning about my skin when I got to my 20’s, because that’s when I started breaking out a lot and dealing with hormonal acne and dryness. So what I’ve learnt is that my skin needs a lot of hydration - like a lot - and it does well with a simple routine. I’ve also learnt that my skin doesn’t like scrubs or anything scratchy as I get a lot of flare ups.

My routine now mainly focuses on hyperpigmentation and hydration. Before I would bombard my skin with too much products because I didn’t understand what was going on. Now it’s pretty simple for me and of course now I wear SPF every single day which has helped so much.

My morning routine is pretty simple: I use Face Theory Creamy Cleanser, Boots Glycerin and Rosewater Toner, The Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid, The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturising Factors + HA and Krave Beauty’s The Beet Shield (SPF).

For my evening routine I double cleanse with Super Facialist’s Cleansing Oil,  Fresh Beauty’s Soy Cleanser, Fresh Beauty’s Rose Toner, CeraVe Moisturising Lotion and The Afro Hair & Skin Co Facial Oil.
