brownbeautytalk is two today! Wow, has it really been two years since we launched brownbeautytalk? It has been a very hectic and inspiring 2nd year full of lots of wonderful experiences. We have been featured in Stylist magazine when they ran their Beauty special as well as The Guardian talking about how your makeup changes with age. We also held our first ever brownbeautytalk event last year at cucumba: The Urban Pit Stop where we invited bloggers to come down and samples various treatments.
We also worked on projects such as brownbeautygoespink where we tested out various shades of pink lipsticks by different brands to see how they fared. This went down like a storm – look out for brownbeautygoesnude coming soon.
It has been exciting seeing more brown beauties such as Dija Ayodele and Charlotte Mensah launch their own beauty brands; 3017 London and Manketti Oil respectivelym and others such as Sheabutter Cottage, MDMFlow and Antonia Burrell go from strength to strength. It was also great to see the brownbeauty scene translate into bricks and mortar with the launch of Vivrant Beauty in New York and the growth of @Bar Beauty to larger premises in North London. This shows that there is a real need for products aimed at Women of Colour and as well as purchasing them online we also like to get up and close with these products.
Our 2nd year saw a variety of interesting niche events such as the Green Beauty for brown beauties event which tackled the need for natural and organic beauty products. There were also exciting book launches for Love Thy Fro by Casey Elisha and I Love My Hair by Andrea Pippens which celebrated the wonders of natural hair.
Beauty and tech took an exciting turn with the launch of Cocoa Swatches which is app that shows you how different makeup swatches looks on dark skin tone. Keeping in touch with the selfie culture, Alesha Dixon teamed up with Smashbox Cosmetics and HTC to release the first selfie kit.
We also revamped the website in January revealing a new look and different categories. With regards to Social Media we have increased our following and reached the big 10K last year on Instagram. For those of you who aren’t aware we are now on Facebook so go over and give us a follow.
What a lovely year it has been and it has been great working with a group of wonderful women such as Jo Gay, Tunrayo Oyewole, Jay Ejaria, Tamara Hague, Heather Cichowski, Anna Durston, Maria Tumolo, Alexandra Aallexxy, Segun Garuba, Beatrice Fatusin, Sarah Fynn and Francisa Oredeko who have made brownbeautytalk what they are today. Thank you to all our readers for your continued support.
In celebration of our 2nd birthday we will be running giveaways all week on the website, so keep your eyes peeled.
