Smashbox have added new shades to their Be Legendary Cream Lipstick line up, which is a buttery and creamy lipstick that the brand describe as having intense pigmentation and emollients which coat the lips with vivid colour, whilst possessing a lightweight feel. A few months ago we reviewed the Matte version of this lipstick, which performed very well and so I was looking forward to trying the Cream version.
The Be Legendary Cream Lipstick has a feather-light feel on the lips, despite expecting a heavier weight due to the creaminess of the lipstick. The creamy texture ensures that the lipstick hugs your lips, and it delivers an opaque coverage with a single swipe. The presence of emollients means I can skip the use of lip balm beforehand, and the lipstick stays hydrated whilst you wear it, not settling into fine lines or caking as some lipsticks have a tendency to.
This lipstick has a subtle sheen to the finish – it is definitely not matte and neither is it shiny or glossy, lying somewhere in between which makes it versatile to wear. It has a good longevity, although this can be extended by applying it on top of lip liner. The oblong look of the tube is visually appealing and accentuated by the fact that the exterior is matte.
I’ve tried a selection of shades, namely Get Fired, Inspiration and Nude Beach. Get Fired is an orange-based red that is described as a ‘warm red’. I usually prefer blue-based reds however, Get Fired is surprisingly easy to wear, especially in the current season. Nude Beach is a ‘pale coral’, falling in between a nude and a full-on coral. The muted characteristics of Nude Beach makes this a versatile shade to wear – handy if bright coral is not usually your thing. My favourite shade is Inspiration, which is a hot pink shade described as a ‘bright fuchsia pink’ which again, is suited to the summer season and offers a bold alternative to classic red.
Smashbox have smashed it and have ticked all the boxes with the high-quality performance of the Be Legendary Cream Lipstick, and with the variety of distinctive shades on offer.
Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipsticks are priced at £17.50.
