Weleda Skin Food calls itself the best kept beauty secret since 1926. Having relatively recently been introduced to Skin Food myself, I am inclined to agree. The first thing that caught me was the name, Skin Food. What does that mean and where does it go? Going some way to address that is the simple description that it is for dry and rough skin.
I used it on my cuticles which are in terrible shape, as well as my knees, elbows, shins and hands. I tried it on my lips but much as I like the smell, I don’t like the taste. I used it to moisturise as well as provide a protective barrier for my battered skin. My favourite way to use this product was as an overnight treatment for my hands and feet using sleep treatment gloves and socks. I loved waking up to softer and nourished hands and feet.
As it is so rich, I’d use it as a night cream but on one occasion I had to use it in the day. For some reason my skin suddenly became irritated after a workout. Even though I had removed my makeup beforehand and washed my face afterwards it was tingly and hot. Skin Food came to the rescue and instantly calmed all irritation.
With no added or artificial fragrance, the delicious scent comes from sweet orange oil with a hint of rosemary oil and lavender oil which stops it being sickly. I find the scent to be calming which I attribute to the lavender oil. I can also smell the beeswax, just a little reminder that it is 100% natural (and nature certified).
Skin Food is a very rich but easily absorbed cream. I always give myself a mini hand massage when using it as hand cream, really working it in. My hands and the cream deserve it, besides, you really get the benefit of the warming rosemary oil that way. It is comforting and soothing.
After use, the cream leaves behind a sheen, making my skin look healthy and well fed. My skin’s natural colour is emphasised without looking oily or greasy. I’m in love with this so aptly named, nourishing, multi-tasking Skin Food.
Weleda Skin Food is available in two handbag friendly sizes priced at £6.95 for 20ml and £9.95 for 75ml.
