Aveda Be Curly Co-Wash and Detangling Intensive Masque

Another day, another natural hair product. This time from well loved brand Aveda. I've heard a lot about the brand especially in recent months but oddly, never tried their products. When their new Be Curly Co-Wash and Detangling Intensive Masque arrived at #brownbeauty HQ,

I was more than happy to try them. Even though this is the first time I am using their products, Aveda is a brand I truly respect. The effort that they are putting into creating a suitable range for Afro hair is admirable.

They recently held an event where they announced that they will be providing more resources to educate their salon staff on natural Afro hair. I found the new Be Curly Co-Wash (which is sulfate-free) to be quite hydrating. Normally, when I co-wash I’d still have to continuously moisturise my hair before bed just to keep it hydrated and frizz free till the next wash day. After using this product, I didn’t have to do this. My curls stayed moisturised for longer and really soft though less defined.

Because I have quite thick, coarse hair, I tend to elongate my wash days because of the pain it inflicts. I recently cut out shampoos from my hair care routine to see if things become any easier. I was more intrigued my the Detangling intensive Masque than the Co-Wash. I have been using Cantu Shea Butter Natural Hair Coil Calm Detangling Spray when I style my hair and it works just fine.

However, I wanted something that could ease the pain on wash days. The detangling Masque worked perfectly. After rinsing out the Co-Wash, I rubbed the Masque evenly on my hair, working through from roots to tips. The packaging advised leaving it in for five minutes before thoroughly rinsing but I went a bit longer. My scalp has been unusually itchy since I used these products so next time I will ensure I stick to the recommended time.

Aveda Be Curly Co-Wash is priced at £20.50 and Aveda Detangling Intensive Masque at £22.50.
