Benefit Cosmetics’ They’re Real range keeps getting bigger and better, it seems, with the They’re Real Tinted Primer. This tinted primer promises to be your ‘partner in prime’ and tints, defines and primes lashes. Lash Primers have long existed in the beauty industry, but I have not seen a tinted lash primer before.

When I heard of the They’re Real Tinted Primer, I couldn’t understand what would distinguish it from a natural definition mascara. However I’m glad I’ve had the chance to try it because I can totally see how it’s a purposeful product in its own right. The mink-brown primer can be worn alone, to give lashes a feathery, natural look, where lashes are lengthened, defined and tinted.

Also, mascara can be worn on top of the tinted primer to ‘dramatically boost length and separate, for beyond belief lashes’. Other lash primers I’ve tried have tended to degrade the mascara worn on top of it, but this tinted lash primer keeps the mascara worn after it looking clean, sleek and defined, due to the softness of the primer. I have been using this product alone during the day, but have teamed it with my favourite mascara during evenings to amp up the drama. The mink-brown colour is cleverly universal, suiting all shades of lashes from blonde to black.

The Lash Primer has a flexible brush which adds curl to the lashes, and has plastic teeth for extreme definition and separation - it’s reassuringly difficult to achieve clumping to the lashes with this product. Even though the lash primer is not waterproof, it seems to last for hours and hours without budging, and so I even feel comfortable wearing this in hot weather.

Overall, I feel that Benefit Cosmetics have revived the traditional Lash Primer by adding a tint (white tints suddenly seem archaic) and massively improving the performance of them. This is definitely a product which you didn’t know you needed, but one which will become an essential in your makeup bag.
