Created by Gloria Maddy and Wilma Sagoe, Cos Box launched last year. As black women with a passion for beauty, they tried out a number of beauty subscriptions before realising that they weren’t catering to their needs or providing them with a beauty experience they desired. They created Cos Box to create an experience for black women that enables them to discover new products and also re-discover staple items that would work for them. Empowering Black and Asian women is at the heart of their business and they are passionate about sharing beauty tips and information - inviting experts to their channels to share their knowledge on all things beauty.

KweenBox

Newly launched this month, Ernestina Kweenuah Aggrey founded KweenBox with a focus on not only providing new beauty and skincare discoveries, but self-care as well. The aim being to ensure that every woman looks and feels like the Kween they are. Kweenbox places an emphasis on diversity and inclusivity and are passionate about supporting black owned businesses, particularly those run by women. They consider all skin tones and types, and most of the products in the first box are vegan and cruelty free. The launch box also features five products from Black owned businesses.

TreasureTress

TreasureTress is Europe’s first and largest natural hair product discovery box. Founded by Jamelia Donaldson, it was created out of her experience with typical hair shops, which she found to be uninspiring and substandard compared to mainstream beauty shopping experiences. Her vision was to make product discovery simple for Black women and girls with naturally textured hair, and to empower women with every unboxing to uncover the true value of their hair - discovering how beautiful it really is. Each TreasureTress box is filled with a variety of full-sized products, product tasters, samples and styling tools.

Odyssey Box

Odyssey Box was founded by Chloe Elliott, delivering luxury hair care from the best Black-owned brands that offer safe, plant-based, natural ingredients for curly, kinky and coily hair textures. The brand was born out of Chloe’s journey to discover the best products and brands for her own hair and inspired by the idea that an odyssey is a long and exciting adventure, Chloe believes that this is what your natural hair journey should be like. Committed to empowering and connecting Black consumers. The brand supports children in foster care so that they can still feel connected to their community and their heritage. For every 50 boxes they sell, they donate a box to a child in foster care. So, your adventure can support theirs too.

Discovered Beauty Box

Discovered Beauty Box was created by Sojourner Baker and launched last year. As a beauty subscription lover, Sojourner found herself becoming more frustrated and disappointed with the boxes that she was receiving. Many of them contained products that weren’t suitable for her complexion or hair type and this led her down the path to launch Discovered Beauty. It’s a beauty subscription box that is rooted in inclusivity and each box is specially curated with a minimum of four full and deluxe size products from a variety of brands that are suitable for Black and Asian women. With a focus on incorporating all elements of beauty, lifestyle and wellbeing, Discovered Beauty doesn’t just focus on established brands but also features them alongside new and emerging brands – ensuring that every beauty lover is continuously discovering excitement with every box.

Curlee Box

Launched in 2017, Curlee Box was founded by Kimberley to offer customers the opportunity to explore different hair care brands every month. The brand is selective about the products they include in their boxes – only partnering with brands they believe have curly girl friendly hair ingredients. They also offer two box options to suit their customer needs, their original monthly Curlee Box and their bi-monthly Free-From box, which avoids harsh sulphates, silicones and drying alcohols.

4 Curly Hair

4 Curly Hair was founded by Becki Masinja and Ashleigh Kunaka last year. They created the brand partially out of frustration with the beauty supply store and hair shop experience; which often meant they would end up purchasing the wrong products. Their goal was to take back ownership of the hair shop and give it back to the community that it serves. While providing a stress-free hair shop experience by being selective and only stocking natural hair products that doesn’t contain damaging ingredients. 4 Curly Hair’s shining star is their Discovery Subscription Box, which is an affordable and accessible box, providing customers with the opportunity to try out products to see if it suits their hair type without having to commit to a large bottle.

AKA Beauty

AKA Beauty was created by Tracey Akamaguna. Launched this January, out of her frustration with trying to find quality beauty and skincare that was suitable for her skintone, Tracey created the brand to meet the beauty needs of Black women.  Every quarter, AKA Beauty will deliver at least four to five full size high quality products. Each product is chosen with darker skin tones in mind, with the aim of allowing Black female consumers to easily discover established and emerging beauty brands that cater to them.

Deborah Goddard launched True Beauty in 2016 with a mission to provide a stress-free beauty shopping experience with products to test and try in the comfort of your own home. At the time of launching she found that a lot of beauty products were not easily accessible in the UK and wanted to make a change. True Beauty aim is to provide value for money, so they offer a wide selection of a minimum of four full sized products and two samples in every monthly box.
Allowing customers to truly test a new product over time, and enabling them to discover new beauty products they may have previously heard of.

Curls Allowed was launched in 2018 by Olivia Rufus. As a curly-haired woman with two curly boys ,she was looking for a way to affordably try new hair products. Already a beauty subscription box lover, she decided to create a box that catered specifically to curly hair, with the aim of having new and out of reach products curated and sent to your door every month. The brand offers travel sizes of products, making it more accessible for people to try before committing to full sizes. It’s also very handy for popping into your handbag for a quick refresh during the day or to take your hair essentials in your holiday bag. They are also the first UK curly hair subscription box specifically offering Curly Girl safe boxes for those who follow the Curly Girl method.

The aim is to bring them to the forefront and provide them with much needed visibility. The brand focuses on curating gift like boxes that include both beauty and lifestyle products, with each box often associated with a different lifestyle theme and concept ranging from beauty, lifestyle, technology, wellness and faith.

Bridal Box was founded by Lordine Marie last year due to an extremely disappointing experience with her makeup artist on her own wedding day. Lordine launched the bridal beauty gift box to allow brides to take back some control, feel confident but most importantly supported and beautiful on her big day. The Bridal Beauty Gift Box contains all the essential beauty and planning tools that a bride needs for the day.

Not based in the UK but over in Copenhagen, the Blac Box is a personalised subscription box for black women in Europe. Created by Abi Olusanya last year, she founded the brand after moving to Copenhagen from London where she found there were a lack of stores that catered to her 4c hair and dark skin tone. Exploring subscription boxes as a way to meet her beauty gap, she quickly realised that their level of personalisation for Black women was insufficient, so theBlacBox was created to address that need. With a focus on personalisation, each box is specifically tailored to your profile – from your skin tone, skin type, hair type and hairstyle, so you can easily discover skincare, hair care and beauty products that work for you. Inside your BlacBox, you’ll find at least two skincare products, two haircare products and two beauty products sourced from Black owned brands from around the world, all curated to suit your individual needs.
