How I Look After My Dry Skin

Skincare Self-Care Special

brown beauty talk contributor, Natasha Glover has always suffered from dry skin. She shares her skincare regime and the products she uses to keep her skin in check.

I have dry skin and I'm always looking for the ideal skincare routine to keep my skin happy.

Morning

Currently I cleanse with Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Mild which is specifically for dry skin. While my skin is still damp after cleansing, l use either the Evolve Hyaluronic Acid 200 Serum or the Bobbi Brown Extra Treatment Lotion.

Hyaluronic acid is essential for dry skin as it attracts moisture, so if my skin has dried before I get to my serums (due to any number of distractions) I will spritz my face with Queen of Hungary Mist by Omorovicza or splash on some Rose Tonic by Pixi.

As my skin is so dry, I like to use a rich but easily absorbed eye cream. In the summer I use either the Clinique All About Eyes Rich or Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream and the Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream is my winter must-have.

In terms of moisturisers, rich is best such as the Elemis Marine Collagen Ultra Rich Cream or Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Cream. Although gel-based moisturisers are soothing, the moisturisation doesn't last all day for me. In the summer, if I feel I need a lighter moisturiser, I like to wear the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ and follow with a heavier sunscreen.

I like to wear Ultrasun Face Tinted SPF50+ Honey over my lightweight skincare and in the winter, when my skincare is heavier, I wear Ultrasun Face Fluid SPF50+ Tinted Honey. I have recently tried the La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid SPF50+ which is nice and I carry the Shiseido Clear Stick UV Protector SPF50+ in my handbag to top up on my sun protection during the day. They are all moisturising so if I am pushed for time, I could skip the moisturiser and apply the sun protection straight after the serum stage.

With dry skin also comes dry lips and my favourite lip balms are the Fairfield Gardens Lip Balm in Orange and the Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF15. In the winter, sometimes my lips need a bit more protection, so I use Blistex MedPlus or Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment.

Evening

In the evening, my favourite cleanser is the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil. I have found that cleansing oils and balms work well for dry skin.

I make sure my face is clean by cleansing again if necessary, then using Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water because although dryness is my main skin concern, it can lead to sensitivity. I follow the cleanse with an eye cream and serum.

I love, love, love facial oils, especially the Flow Beauty Co Everything Oil. If I put it on at night, I wake with a golden glow. I also like to wear it during the day. I also like the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Oil which follows on nicely from an Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm Cleanse.

When my skin needs an extra moisture boost and I have a bit of time on my hands, I use masks. The best ones I have tried for dry skin are the Garnier Moisture Bomb Pomegranate Hydrating Face Sheet Mask for Dehydrated Skin, the Nuxe Moisturising Mask Crème Fraîche de Beauté (which you can also use in the eye area) and the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels

Having said that, all the creams in the world don’t work unless you drink enough water so remember to stay hydrated for healthy skin from the inside out!
