What's In My Makeup Bag - Jaz Mattu

Jaz Mattu has been surrounded by beauty all her life; working as a model agent representing some of the biggest supermodels in the industry, an agent for high-profile hair and makeup artists and in beauty PR. So it would make sense that she also runs a beauty blog called Crush With Eyeliner. She took time out to tell me about the beauty products in her makeup bag.

Describe the items in your makeup bag.

I try to keep my makeup routine simple, but as the years have gone by and I have more products to review, it makes my life a more difficult, but a lot more fun. I don’t have much time in the mornings so my makeup takes 10 minutes. It’s usually the same routine every day so I go into autopilot mode and whack it on.  When I have more time and need to make an effort, I spend 30 minutes max on my face.  I’m not the type of person who spends hours getting ready and the times I have spent an hour on my face, it has made no difference to the finished product.

Good skincare is essential so I see my base as the most important part of makeup bag. My key product is foundation.  I have used NARS Sheer Glow in Barcelona forever, but since discovering Sleek Lifeproof foundation I have officially converted. Sleek is my every day foundation and I use my NARS on special occasions. Even though my skin tone is medium, my undertone is yellow so I find it tricky finding a foundation to match my skin. I like to support brands that celebrate inclusivity and both NARS and Sleek are great for this. I apply foundation with a brush and then blend it out with a Beautyblender.

I use Cover FX Cream Concealer in medium and set it using Rodial Banana Powder.  I used to be an agent for makeup artists who told me that your skin should be visible under foundation and once applied, it should look like a better version of the real thing.  I always go for a medium coverage and use an illuminator to make my skin look healthy, dewy and glowy.

My eyebrows are a real problem - they take the longest. Using an angled brush I apply my Eyelure Pomade in medium and then pencil in and brush them out using the Eyelure Brow Pencil. Finally, I finish with Glossier Boy Brow which is amazing.

I am obsessed with rusty coloured eye shadows and I apply it dark, even during the day.  I am currently switching between palettes - Huda Beauty Rose Gold, Huda Beauty Obsessions and Urban Decay Naked Heat.  I line my inner eyes with dark brown pencil and finish with mascara.  I usually use whatever is on my review list but I love Eyeko Bespoke Mascara

Ever since a makeup artist contoured my cheekbones, I have become obsessed with contouring. I have recently discovered cream works better for me and at the moment I am using Cover FX Cover Click in N100 for my contour which I blend with a beautyblender, cover with NARS Laguna bronzer and finish with Cover FX cream highlighter which I blend with my fingers. My lipstick is Charlotte Tillbury in Amazing Grace

Which is your favourite item in your makeup bag?

It has got to be my Glossier Birthday Balm. It keeps my lips hydrated all day.  Nothing is worse than dry lips and this one tastes amazing and is special to me because I bought it in New York.

Where did you get your makeup bag?

The bag is free from a goody bag and it’s from Rodial.
