What's In My Makeup Bag - Yomi Adegoke
Yomi Adegoke is an award-nominated journalist and senior writer at women's site, The Pool. She writes about race, feminism, popular culture, class and politics. Her much awaited book, Slay In Your Lane - written with her best friend, Elizabeth Elizabeth Uviebinen - is released today.
The book is dubbed the Black Girl's Bible as it celebrates the lives and careers of Black women in the UK. Yomi took time out to show us the beauty products in her makeup bag.
Describe the items in your makeup bag?
I always have my Real Techniques Foundation Brush and then a Blush and Contour brush from LaRoc and a beautyblender. For my face, I have my Face Contour Kit from Sleek in Dark, Kiko’s Unlimited Foundation SPF 15, MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, MAC Ambering Rose Blush, Kiko Invisible Touch Face Fixing Powder and Sleek Barekissed Illuminator. For my eyes I carry a Rimmel Eyeliner and Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Brown, then Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara, and a Sleek i Divine Eyeshadow Palette in Storm. Finally, for my lips I always have lip liner (usually Barry M) in whatever colour works with my chosen lipstick and a Matte Liquid Lipstick.
It's a lot and it's a heavy make up bag! I don't really carry my makeup bag often - it's definitely a thing I bring out for occasions. I tend to bring everything with me because I don't wear makeup on a daily basis, so when I do wear it, I go all out.
Which is your favourite item in your makeup bag?
My Invisible Touch Face Fixing Powder, because if I'm "out-out", all my hard work tends to be sweated off, but this keeps my face flawless regardless of how much I'm dancing or how hot a venue gets. I highly recommend it to ravers, or anyone who tends to get a bit too shiny after a while.
Where did you get your makeup bag?
I bought it from Superdrug - after I got fed up of throwing all my make-up directly into a handbag - and I’ve had it for much longer than I should have. I’d say at least since final year of uni, which was four years ago, it's mirror is long gone and it's tearing at the seams.
