Jessica Walker - Stuntwoman
I used to be the girl who barely touched skincare, but working in film changed everything. With daily styling and heavy makeup, I had to step up my routine - and fast!
How did you get into your role as a stuntwoman?
The stunt world was was never an industry I saw myself in and I feel like I fell into the role, pardon the pun. But I am also a big believer of trusting the universe. I was made redundant from my Digital Marketing job back in 2019, and that night I just so happened to receive a message on Instagram asking whether I had wires experience. Apparently I had the same look and body type as the leading lady of Avenue 5 (an Apple TV series), and luckily for me I had been enjoying some indoor rock climbing at the time. I informed them of my skills and as a result I was on set the very next day. The world works in mysterious ways, and I definitely believe that when one door closes another door opens.
Describe a typical day in your life?
Training for the British Stunt Register is a daily commitment that pushes me physically and mentally. Every day, I’m honing my skills, whether it’s horseback riding, trampolining, climbing, or martial arts, constantly building strength, agility, and resilience. It’s intense, but I love the challenge. When I’m not in action, you’ll find me with a coffee in hand, editing social media content and sharing my journey. Balancing training with content creation keeps me motivated, and while the grind is real, there’s nothing more rewarding than pushing my limits and seeing progress every single day. We love the hustle.
Please tell us about the concept of Afro Is Massive Clips
The Afro Is Massive Clips were born out of a real need for change. While working as a dancer on Batman (yes, the one with Robert Pattinson - swoon!), I had countless backstage chats with Black performers about a shared struggle: hairstylists weren’t equipped to style Afro hair, from skills to tools. Worse, standard salon clips snagged, ripped, and simply weren’t made for our textures. So, I created a solution, clips that securely grip big, bouncy curls and fluffy puffs without damage. Plus, they’re bright white, so no more awkward “lost in your hair” jokes. Finally, a tool that truly gets us.
Tell is what is in your makeup bag
I’ve always been a minimalist when it comes to makeup, less is more, right? But recently, I’ve been diving into the Dior makeup collection, all thanks to the amazing recommendations from the makeup artists I’ve worked with on set. I’ve fallen in love with their products, and now I can’t stop exploring more! But if we’re talking about my absolute ride or die, it’s got to be NYX Waterproof Eyeliner. This little gem doesn’t budge, no matter how active or sweaty I get, trust me, it’s perfect for someone constantly on the go. It's my secret weapon for looking fresh, even on the busiest days.
What are your favourite foundations?
Finding the perfect foundation match can be a real challenge when you have yellow/olive undertones like mine. Even makeup artists often have to mix different shades to get it just right. That said, I’ve recently discovered my holy grail foundation: the Dior Backstage foundation. It’s a game-changer! Not only does it match my skin tone flawlessly, but it also contains hyaluronic acid, which means it hydrates and nourishes my skin while delivering that dewy, flawless finish I crave. I can’t get enough of it and it gives me the perfect balance of coverage and glow, all while keeping my skin looking healthy and radiant.
Which hair products do you use?
As much as I swear by our curly staples like Design Essentials and Afrocenchix, I’m all about supporting smaller, Black-owned hair care brands. Right now, I’m obsessed with the Essien Leave-In Conditioner—it smells like vanilla heaven and keeps my curls hydrated and nourished all day. And don’t get me started on the Taliah Waajid gel, its hold is incredible. My curls stay in place without feeling crunchy, which is rare. I’ll be so sad when it runs out, but until then, I’m savouring every drop. Supporting these brands not only helps my hair, but it feels so rewarding too.
What is your skincare routine?
I used to be that girl with no skincare routine at all, but once I started working in film, I quickly realised that had to change, daily styling and makeup took a toll on my skin. Now, I’ve got a routine that works wonders! I start by using Elemis Cleansing Balm to melt away makeup, followed by La Roche-Posay Cleansing Gel for a deep clean. Next, I apply The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate, then layer on Weleda Skin Food moisturizer, it's thick and nourishing, perfect for keeping my skin soft and balanced. Finally, I finish off with Hawaiian Tropics sunscreen to protect my skin all day long.
